Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician



The sterile compounding technician has the primary responsibility for all sterile and non-sterile compounded products according to patient orders, the outpatient nursing schedule and the OR schedule under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist.


  • The technician is responsible for setting up and preparing compounding orders, cleaning, and maintaining the clean room and equipment, restocking medications, diluents, syringes and needles, and appropriately disposing of returned products.  
  • The technician is also the primary back-up to the inpatient pharmacy technician which can include ordering medication, refilling the Omnicell, checking for outdates, entering medication charges, auditing the Omnicell, miscellaneous clerical duties and any other tasks deemed necessary by the pharmacist for the optimal performance of the department. 

Occasional weekends and call may be required.

  •        High School Diploma or GED       .
  •         Health care experience including medical terminology
  •         Better than average math skills.

     Other qualifications/certificates/license:

  • Active Colorado pharmacy technician license or the ability to obtain a provisional license within upon hire to be active on first day of work. Active license must be completed within 18 months of hire.
  • PTCB certification is required within 18 months of hire.
  • Sterile Compounding Certification completed within 6 months of hire.
  • Current BLS certification.

Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
